Spring is a season of renewal and growth—a time when hope blossoms. At Easterseals Veterans Rally Point, we see this transformation every day in the lives of the Veterans we serve.
After serving in the Navy and retiring from a 32-year career with the Department of Transportation, Michael found himself feeling lost. Separated, later divorced, and struggling with anxiety, he was searching for a sense of belonging. That’s when he found Easterseals Veterans Rally Point (VRP). What started as a simple visit turned into a life-changing experience. He volunteered at the front desk, helped build woodworking projects, and even created heating pads for a US Navy Veteran Michael & a quilt like the one he made for his daughter caregiver's retreat. He found purpose. And through one of our quilting classes, he found healing—stitching together a special quilt to reconnect with his estranged daughter.
Michael also found something he never expected—companionship. Thanks to Easterseals VRP, he was connected with Enzo, a purebred yellow lab who became his therapy dog and a loyal companion. And in his quilting class, he met Colette—the woman who is now his fiancée. What started as a shared love for creating turned into deep and meaningful relationships.
Michael was able to regain his confidence and find a supportive community that embraced him. Now, he’s paying it forward by leading a Qigong class at VRP to help other Veterans manage stress and anxiety. This is the power of connection at Easterseals.
